Significa #3
Questions
I thought for Trivia #3 we could have a little fun with
the "slime" comments that have been on the list lately.
In an article in "London Musical Events", September
1955, C.B. Rees wrote an article on Dennis Brain. In that article, mention is
made of the "liners" of "breath and dust" that is in a horn
that is played regularly. I will quote the relevent passage and see if anyone
is familiar with the missing terms.
"At a Promenade Concert in 1949 he performed Strauss's Horn Concerto and E flat on an instrument he had bought a year previously as a collector's piece. It was made in Paris in 18181and there seem to be only two lothers like it in the country-one at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
He had not thought of playing on it until his usual instrument
broke down. He had it brought up to date for it had not previously been used.
He explained after this Prom concert that he knew it had not been used as it
had no "lining," which is produced by the combination of breath and
dust. Dennis added, with a smile, "and one of the best 'liner' is __________."
But he himself, after the performance, drank a glass of ____________."
As always the first to guess the missing words earns the
overwhelming respect of over 700 hornists throughout the world.
