A rare model indeed, a four valve single high F horn, convertible to single Bb, built by Knopf for Thomas Newell, formerly of the Boston Symphony, and a descant horn pioneer in the US. The layout has much in common with the Viennahorn, and all condensed water runs to one low point for easy removal. One screw ring (Alex compatible) was replaced, probably after being "sprung". The valves (Martin Peter of Markneukirchen) have some wear but still seal well, and the slides are still tight. The tone is ever so lovely, buoyant and not descant tinny, and the pitch is very good, better IMHO than my Paxman. The 4th valve completes the missing notes in the low range, and gives usable alternatives for middle and upper range notes.
